We are not aware of any such event having been organized before, so we are staking this claim to be India’s first “hackathon” for creating social impact. A little more than a week from today, about 50 social entrepreneurs and social change agents will come together for a weekend to present their ideas, build teams and collaborate to work together on the cause they feel most passionate about.
Many outside participants have shown an interest in participating and it promises to be an exciting experiment in doing social good. iWeekend Impact will be organized at the Centre for Innovation Incubation and Entrepreneurship (CIIE) in the new campus of IIM Ahmedabad. CIIE’s new initiative for social entrepreneurship Aarohan Ventures will incubate two projects judged by their panel and they could get the opportunity to get seed funding of upto INR 20 lakhs (approx $40,000). These two projects will also get access to a network of mentors through MentorEdge events and invitation to all relevant capacity building workshops that CIIE may conduct in the next 6 months.
For the organizers of this innovative event, the journey of organizing itself has been quite intense so far. We feel excited about it and are working hard behind the scenes. There’s still time for people and organizations to pitch in and help us make this event a success so we can do more such events in the future.
